16. februar skal kommunens arealplan behandles i kommunestyret og ALI kjemper nå for å beholde en setning i revidert arealplan, som kan gi altalaksen et bedre vern i vandringen inn og ut Altafjorden.

ALI ønsker at Alta Kommune skal ta større kontroll over egne sjøarealer, og stille miljøkrav til havbruk gjennom plan og bygningsloven i det som er vandringsveien til den unike altalaksen, og nasjonal laksefjord.
Setningen posisjonspolitikerne i Alta strøk etter innvending fra fylkeskommunen da arealplanen var på høring er «For nye lokaliteter eller vesentlig endring på eksisterende lokaliteter skal det ikke forekomme utslipp av organiske partikler til resipienten». Denne setningen ville satt helt nye miljøkrav til fremtidig havbruk, og i større grad redusert sjansen for genetisk forurensing, og mulig spredning av sykdom som f.eks. ILA til altalaksen. Setningen er brukt av Osterøy kommune, og med den unike laksestammen vi har i Alta mener vi at det nå er på tide at man også i Alta tør å ta kampen for å bestemme over egne arealer, og miljø.
Ved å underskrive her vil du sammen med ALI vise at du ønsker at kommunen setter krav til en bærekraftig utvikling innen havbruk i Altafjorden. Setningen kan ennå tas inn igjen i arealplanen ved behandlingen i kommunestyret 16.februar om politikerne våre er villig, og modig nok til å ta kampen for egne arealer.

Support the wild salmon in the Alta River 

On 16 February, the municipality's area plan will be considered by the municipal council and Alta Laksefiskeri Interessentskap (ALI) is now fighting to keep a sentence in the revised plan, which can give the Alta salmon better protection on its way in and out of the fjord of Alta.

ALI wants Alta Municipality to take greater control of its own areas at sea and set environmental requirements for aquaculture through their decisions. This is the migration route to the unique Alta salmon, and national salmon fjord.

The sentence the position politicians in Alta deleted after objection from the county municipality when the area plan was on consultation is "For new areas or significant change to existing areas, there shall be no discharge of organic particles to the recipient". This sentence would set completely new environmental requirements for future aquaculture, and to a greater extent reduce the chance of genetic contamination, and possible spread of disease such as ILA. The phrase is used by Osterøy municipality, and with the unique salmon stock we have in Alta, we believe that it is now time that people in Alta also dare to take the fight to decide over their own areas and environment.
